The Love of God will Prevail over Evil
The nation is waking up this morning to horrific news – a mass shooting in Las Vegas that has left at least 50 people dead and over 200 wounded. This is a time for all of us, the whole nation, to pray for them, their families and friends.
Such senseless acts of deadly violence boggle the mind. Again and again we witness violence in our communities – in schools, churches, theaters, on city streets and at festivals, like this one in Las Vegas. Yet we remember too the mercies and promises of the Lord that evil and death will not have the final word.
As we pray that our heavenly Father now welcome the departed into the embrace of his loving arms, and comfort and heal the wounded in body, mind and spirit, we pray also that the Lord grant all of us the peace and stability that will enable us to live with each other without fear and anxiety, and with dignity and joy.
Human life is precious – every human life. We have seen enough of death and destruction and suffering.
Today let us stand together and with all people of good will in making another impassioned appeal for peace and security in our communities and throughout the world. Let us also glorify God by responding to evil with love.
